Optimizing your CV or resume is probably one of the most important steps in the process. This is what gets you noticed by an HR recruiter or the hiring manager. Nothing really happens without it.
To effectively develop one, understanding the hiring team's mindset is key. Below are 3 core areas that hiring teams look for in a candidate:
1- Clinical acumen or scientific expertise. MSLs are field-based scientific experts and are aligned with specific products or a therapeutic area for a company. Naturally, hiring managers will seek the ones with existing clinical experience/knowledge in a particular therapeutic area. The more you can highlight and focus on a particular expertise, the better. Rest assured that you are competing with another candidate who has experience in that therapeutic area so you need to do the same.
2--Transferrable knowledge or skillsets . . think communication or anything related to building relationships. MSLs are hyper-networkers and relationship builders. Highlight any public speaking or teaching engagements, research, publications, or special projects you have done. All will help make you standout.
3-Any leadership, continuous learning you are involved with. This helps to show that you are actively learning and constantly improving yourself. Successful MSLs are continuous, learners. They are also highly collaborative, curious and impact-driven.
In doing the above, you are telling your story (own unique professional journey), projecting your value to the organization and most importantly, your potential as an MSL.
